I recently sent a copy of the article to Jane Lomax-Smith, the State Minister for Education and Childrens Services. She forwarded it to Jan Andrews, the Deputy Chief Executive of Schools and Children&#039;s Services. Jan sent me a letter of thanks which read in part, 

&lt;i&gt;&quot;The Minister has asked me to reply directly to your letter as this matter falls within my area of responsibility. Your article indeed highlights the unique difficulties of the English language and the problems posed for all students trying to understand the spelling rules that go with this form of communication. Your reference to etymology in order to make sense of spelling is an interesting connection for both students and teachers.&quot;&lt;/i&gt;
